Following Apple´s announcement of iOS5 at the Word Wide Developer Conference in San Francisco, WoodWing announced support of the new version of Apple´s mobile operating system, including the Newsstand offering.

Zaandam, The Netherlands (June 7, 2011) – WoodWing Software, a leading supplier of cross-media publishing solutions and an innovation leader in multi-platform tablet publishing, today announced that its Tablet Publishing Solution will support iOS5. The new version of Apple´s operating system for mobile devices was unveiled during the World Wide Developer Conference on June 6 and offers a number of innovative features, enabling publishers to optimize their iPad publishing business model, all while offering an enhanced experience for their readers.

Big step forward for iPad Publishing: the digital Newsstand built into iOS5
The digital Newsstand directly integrated into iOS5 organizes magazine and newspaper app subscriptions using a folder that allows readers to access their favorite publications quickly and easily. Thanks to the attractive presence on the home screen of the iPad, the Newsstand is constantly in view of the users. New issues will automatically be downloaded in the background, so readers don’t have to manually do that for the publications they subscribed to. Subscribers will be notified of new issues available for offline reading by the notification feature significantly enhanced in iOS5.

The Newsstand is supported by a new area in the Apple App Store dedicated to digital publications, allowing users to easily subscribe to newspapers and magazines. Separating digital publications from the rest of the available apps will significantly increase their visibility and will allow consumers to virtually walk through the Newsstand in search for their desired publications.

"The digital Newsstand is a great addition, offering specific publisher support built right into iOS,” said Erik Schut, President of WoodWing. "Publishers will benefit from the dedicated area in the App Store just for newspaper and magazine subscriptions. Together with the background download, the Newsstand is a big step forward for the reader experience. We were the first to support the paid subscription options offered by the App Store, and we're once again working closely with Apple to support their Newsstand and other new iOS5 features.”

Supporting advanced Twitter integration of iOS5
Since the summer of 2010, WoodWing has offered the sharing of magazine and newspaper content via Twitter. The integration of Twitter into iOS5 allows WoodWing to further enhance the reading experience of iPad publications.

With these additions to iOS5, Apple is making it even easier for publishers to successfully bring their products to mobile devices, while at the same time exploring new sources of revenue.
