08.07.11 - Svetlana Mironyuk, Editor-in-Chief of the Russian News & Information Agency RIA Novosti, was recognized for her work with a  Russian Media Manager 2011 Award.

“I was excited to learn that the Media Manager’s Board of Trustees had given me the award,” Mironyuk said. “But I was even more pleased that RIA Novosti, my agency, received the prize for social responsibility in the media business.”

In the past year, RIA Novosti, led by Svetlana Mironyuk, has launched about a dozen socially significant projects that immediately won public acclaim, including Life Without Drugs, YouReporter, Sport Without Borders and Start With Yourself.

“It is not every year that the Board of Trustees gives a Grand Prix. It does so only where there is a candidate who stands out. I think it was with good reason that the trustees have chosen Svetlana Mironyuk this year,” said Dzhemir Degtyarenko from the award’s organizing committee.

The Board of Trustees also introduced a new nomination category, “Business Persona,” granted for contributions to the development of the media business. This year it was given to Mikhail Prokhorov, director general of Russia’s largest gold mining company, Polyus Gold.

The first national Russian Media Manager award ceremony was held in 2001. It was established to spotlight the most important events and people in the media business by Media House Publishers and the magazine Novosti SMI, with support from related organizations.
