19.09.11 - By investing in Ferag’s MultiStack bundling system, the company is taking its first step towards automation in the mailroom and is thus set to secure its position in the marketplace.
Founded in 1970, Dar Al Khaleej is a relatively young daily newspaper that is published by Dar Al Khaleej Publishing in Sharjah. Today, with a pagination of 40 and a circulation of 70,000 copies, Dar Al Khaleej is the biggest Arabic daily in the United Arab Emirates. A further Dar Al Khaleej Publishing product is the English-language daily newspaper Gulf Today.
In 2008, Dar Al Khaleej Publishing launched a printing quality offensive, providing the necessary basis through the acquisition of a Cromoman press from Manroland. And recently, Dar Al Khaleej Publishing took the first steps towards automation of the mailroom, with two UTR conveyor systems now taking products off the folder delivery. The single-copy conveyor ensures that transfer of the copystream from the printing machine is reliable – at a maximum press speed of 70,000 copies per hour. The two UTR conveyer systems transport the daily newspapers by the most direct route to one MultiStack bundling machine each for the creation of standard bundles. The MultiStack units make exclusive use of servo motors. Compared with pneumatic drives, servo motors are much more reliable and economical in continuous operation. Finally, the bundles are readied for dispatch on two SmartStrap strapping machines before passing to the loading docks.
The installation of the MultiStack stacking system signals a successful start to Dar Al Khaleej Publishing’s mailroom automation programme. Moreover, the choice of Ferag means that a partner has been acquired who, thanks to the modular concept of its technology, keeps the company‘s options open to the future.
