FR printing plant loses Springer contract

According to a report published on Spiegel Online, the Axel Springer publishing corporation has cancelled its long-standing contract with the Frankfurter Rundschau (FR) to print the Bild, Welt und Welt kompakt newspapers with effect from the end of this month (January 2013). The employees of the printing plant were informed of this on Wednesday (9th January) by the acting liquidator for the Frankfurter Rundschau, Frank Schmitt. This will mean that the printing centre in Neu-Isenburg, which is owned by the FR and where some 250 employees work, will lose about 50 percent of its turnover.

Schmitt, who is attempting to save both the printijng plant and the publishing house, has expressed his continued confidence that he will succeed in selling the publishing house to an investor in the coming weeks. It is also reported that several parties have expressed their "interest in possibly acquiring the printing plant, even without the Axel Springer contract."
