Introduction to Event

(Note: registration is now closed for this tour)

Join us the week of 4 November in Washington and New York to see first hand how some of the leading media organizations in the world are responding to the disruptive trends newspapers face today.  The agenda for this WAN-IFRA study tour is coming together nicely, with a mix of visits to powerhouse media organizations like The New York Times and The Washington Post as well as disrupters like The Huffington Post and BuzzFeed.

Study Tour: Winning in Print and in Digital

Among the highlights of the study tour:

  • A morning at The Washington Post where we will attend the morning editorial meeting and talk with Executive Editor Marty Baron and other top editors to learn how The Post is adapting to the media world and the paper's new owner, Jeff Bezos of Amazon.
  • A meeting with key editors of The Wall Street Journal followed by a conversation with Raju Narisetti, deputy head of strategy for News Corp.
  • A visit to The Huffington Post, where we will learn more about the organization's online success and its innovative online video network.
Confirmed visits for this study tour include The Washington Post, USA Today, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Digital First's Thunderdome newsroom, Buzzfeed, Facebook and The Huffington Post.  In addition, study tour participants will receive a private tour of the Newseum, a popular Washington tourist destination that reflects the history of news and journalism.  (While the schedule is almost full, a few additional visits are pending. Feedback from our last WEF Study Tour in May 2013

"We were given the very best people, who were, startlingly, willing to share what would be regarded in many other industries as trade secrets."
