According to the Newspaper Association of America, the metered paid online content model has become a standard in North America and there are two main reasons for that. One is that the New York Times implemented a digital meter, and the other reason is Press+. The digital subscription platform has gained traction in the industry and its predominant philosophy in charging for content is built around the metered solution. Today, the company regularly harvests information on paywall implementation (and results) from more than 400 publishers.
