Summary

The screen rulings used by newspapers today are around 34 to 40 l/cm, limiting the detail rendition capability and producing a distinct screen pattern. However, recent developments on the software and material side have made it possible to use higher screen rulings for newspaper printing. Also, the emergence of several frequency modulated screening techniques offers an interesting alternative.
