Kirk MacDonald is Executive Vice President of Sales for Digital First Media which jointly manages Journal Register Company and MediaNews Group with more than 800 print and online products serving 64 million Americans each month.

A media industry veteran with 20 plus years of senior management experience in all facets of publishing in print, online and mobile, Mr. MacDonald’s experience ranges from operating roles in hyper-competitive metropolitan markets (San Antonio, Denver and Chicago) to corporate executive roles for one of the nation’s largest media conglomerates and the second largest alternative weekly group in the U.S.

Mr. MacDonald has served as The Denver Post’s Executive Vice President of Advertising, Marketing and Digital Sales since July 2009. It is his third tour of duty at The Post. Mr. MacDonald served as The Post’s Vice President of Advertising from 1989-1993; Sr. Vice President of Sales and Marketing from 1993-1995; and Executive Vice President/General Manager from 1995-1998 before leaving The Post to become Vice President/Newspapers for the Hearst Corporation in March 1998.

In July 2000, Mr. MacDonald became President and CEO of the Denver Newspaper Agency, Publisher of The Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News, with responsibility for merging the business operations of The Post and News under a Joint Operating Agreement. He left in May 2006 to start his own company, Interactive Marketing & Innovation (IM&I). IM&I developed a proprietary, browser-based, data repository (“Marketing Scorecard”) and advised its clients on marketing strategy, audience segmentation and media and product mix.

In January 2008 Mr. MacDonald left IM&I to become Chief Operating Officer of Creative Loafing and Publisher of The Chicago Reader where he remained prior to returning to The Denver Post.
