Koos Staal (1951) is working as an independent graphic designer / consultant. His work is focused mainly on the culture and media sector; he designs books, magazines and trademarks. In 1986 he first took on an assignment to redesign a group of Dutch daily newspapers. This was followed by over fifty (re)design projects for newspapers and magazines across the Netherlands, Europe and Asia.

His work is frequently awarded prizes in international competitions. In 2012 he published Paperworks NL, his book on newspaper design.

Apart from designing, he is also active on boards and advisory committees, serves on professional judges’ panels, works as a consultant to media organisations, and as a visiting lecturer teaches students of design and journalism in the netherlands and
Belgium.

Koos Staal operates variously from his studios in Haren/Groningen (nl) and Berlin.
