In addition to directing the children's magazine Zeit Leo, which appears every two months, Katrin is also responsible for all young reader elements for Die Zeit, including the weekly children's page and the content of books for young readers. She has long had a deep interest in reaching young readers and also chairs the jury for the monthly LUCHS-Award for Children's & Young Adults Literature. Before joining Die Zeit in 2008 at the start of its initiatives for youth, Katrin was a journalist for eight years at the public broadcaster Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR).
