Kayawe said the MISA Award shows her professional growth since venturing into full-time journalism in 2009. She said the award also shows that she has finally made an impact in journalism in Botswana and will be able to open doors for her.
“Before receiving this award, when I was looking for new opportunities outside journalism, I felt like I had not made much of an impact in journalism. I think what this means is that I have made an impact and can proudly make my next move,” she said.
Kayawe attributed her receiving an award to WIN and said it has contributed in her new excellence at work.
“Before I joined WIN, I was demotivated. I did not have a lot of passion for my job, so the program made me realise that I am here to earn a salary, but also to grow myself professionally, and to make an impact as a woman in the media,” she said.
Kayawe says she has benefitted greatly from networking with other women journalists and learning from their challenges, as well as collaborating on stories with other WIN participants in her newsroom. WIN has also taught Kayawe to aim high for her next professional move.
