2011-03-01 18:08The International Freedom of Expression Exchange Tunisia Monitoring Group (IFEX-TMG), a coalition of 20 human rights and freedom of expression organisations of which WAN-IFRA is an active member, has been working since 2004 to draw attention to the state of freedom of expression in Tunisia. In light of the momentous recent events that ousted President Zine Abedine Ben Ali and brought his repressive 23-year regime to an end, WAN-IFRA travelled to Tunis as part of a delegation of IFEX-TMG representatives to take stock of the immense challenges that lie ahead for the media. 2011-02-25 17:51Ahead of November 2010 parliamentary elections, WAN-IFRA had the opportunity to meet with prominent Egyptian journalist, editor and 2008 Gebran Tueni Award laureate, Ibrahim Eissa. In the proceeding months, the political situation in Egypt dramatically changed with the ousting of President Hosni Mubarak and the beginning of a promise of democracy.
