Alex MacCallum is an assistant editor at The New York Times, a position she has held since August, 2014. In this role, Ms. MacCallum is in charge of leading the newsroom team that is dedicated to expanding the audience for and deepening the engagement with the journalism of The Times.

Prior to being named to this masthead position in the Times’s newsroom, Ms. MacCallum was a director of new digital products, where she led the business side team charged with conceiving and launching the Times Cooking app.  She joined The Times in March 2013 as senior manager of business development.

Ms. MacCallum came to The Times from Lerer Ventures, where she was a strategy consultant in business development & operations from 2011. From 2010 to 2011, she was a corporate counsel to The Huffington Post. She was an associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLC, from 2009 to 2010. Previously, she was a founding news editor at The Huffington Post, from 2004 to 2006, and an editorial assistant at The Washington Post, from 2003 to 2004.

Born in New York City, Ms. MacCallum received her BA in history and international relations from Brown University. She earned her JD from UC Berkeley School of Law in 2009
