WAN-IFRA signs €1 Million Partnership with Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs

2016-09-19 The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers has formalised a 3-year, NOK 9,000,000 (EUR 1,000,000) agreement with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support WAN-IFRA’s Media Freedom activities in Central East Africa and South East Asia. The agreement will allow WAN-IFRA to continue its efforts to increase women’s leadership and voices in the news in Kenya, Malawi and Tanzania, and strengthen independent media in Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam through to 2019. 2016-08-18 Today, two leading media organizations representing news organizations around the world – the Newspaper Association of America (NAA) and the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) – wrote to Vice President Joseph Biden urging him, on his upcoming visit to Ankara, Turkey on August 24, to raise with the Turkish government the increasing problem of journalists becoming a target for state repression, and to request the immediate release of those journalists who have been sent to jail or who are awaiting trial simply for carrying out their professional duties. World News Media Congress in Durban (7-9 June 2017) Leads New Initiatives for WAN-IFRA in Africa.

2016-07-04 The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) will hold its 69th World News Media Congress, 24th World Editors Forum, and 27th World Advertising Forum in Durban, South Africa, from 7th to 9th June 2017. It will be only the second time the World News Media Congress has come to the African continent following the success of the Cape Town event in 2007. The Congress is part of a broader plan to expand activities in Africa and connect with colleagues who are leading the media transformation across the continent. Read more ...
