Summary

An offset rotary press is always a major investment item for a newspaper operation. That is why every effort must be made to ensure a careful planning at all project stages in order to guarantee an optimum result. For many years Ifra has assisted its members in this planning by offering its service in the outline of specific press requirements, in the evaluations of different press quotations and in the acceptance testing of new press installations. This Special Report concentrates on the acceptance testing of a newspaper offset rotary press and includes a checklist of important press components that have to he specified in the purchasing contract as well as general information for the commissioning period. The first report was published in September 1991 and it was the opinion of the Ifra Rotary Press Committee that after seven years the report should be up-dated. A working group of the RPC has discussed the issue, worked-out a draft and, after many further discussions received the approval of the whole committee. Thus this report is based on the practical experience of both the printers and press manufacturers. It has to he pointed out that this Special Report provides guidelines only and the figures presented in the appendix are only shown as an example. The final test procedure, quality and productivity parameters with their respective values and tolerances have to be agreed in each case between the contract partners.
