Printing industry

In a recent study on the current state of the European printing industry and its future challenges VTT, the Technical Research Centre of Finland (www.vtt.fi), states that the industry needs a rapid renewal in order to remain competitive.

Extracts from the VTT summary: "The growth of digital media and the resulting decline in print runs, together with rising raw material costs and increased pressure from Asian competitors have put European printers in a tight spot. ... Proactivity is needed. ...  The study shows that in order to survive, the European printing industry must either increase production efficiency and flexibility, increase the value of printed products or launch new applications and services exploiting printing competence. These are the ways in which the industry can survive in a situation where print runs are shrinking but the range of printed products is expanding."
