In Australia, the trimming process is on the rise. News Ltd has opted for rotary trimming drum technology from Ferag (pictured is the SNT-50).

In News Ltd’s Australian production operations, trimming is on the rise. After Adelaide, Sydney, Hobart, Gold Coast and Townsville come Queensland Newspapers and Perth Print as two more News Ltd operations that have invested in Ferag trimming technology. With the new SNT-50, utilization of capacity is far higher while production costs are way down.

Investment in Ferag trimming technology has brought a noticeable boost to capacity for both these operations. In Brisbane, weekly supplement circulations are approaching the million mark. Paginations of processed products lie between 44 and 72 pages tabloid. The Sunday figures are also impressive: immediately after the SNT-50 was commissioned, weekly print volumes were well above a million.

An exceptional feature of the upgrade is the integration of the SNT-50 into existing system structures, some of which go back to the 1980s. At both locations, Ferag installations are more than twenty years old and in perfect condition. Thanks to the SNT-50 trimming drum, they are now of much greater value.
