For the 1,000 visitors to the 64th World Newspaper Congress and 19th World Editors Forum, held in Kiev, Ukraine, from 2 to 5 September, there was no shortage of intense debate on the industry’s key issues: press freedom, new business strategies, digital, rethinking journalism, audience engagement, social media and more. It is not easy to have clarity on all of today’s complex issues, but Kiev 2012 went a long way in showing where the industry is headed.
