15th Asian Media Awards honour publishers from Myanmar and Pakistan

Singapore Press Holdings (Singapore), The New Straits Times (Malaysia) and The South China Morning Post (Hong Kong) were among the top winners of the annual Asian Media Awards (AMA) presented today (30 March) in a gala ceremony in Manila by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA).

While The Star (Malaysia), Jawa Pos (Indonesia) Gulf News (UAE) and Muscat Press (Oman) also clinched several trophies, this year’s Awards were marked by the achievements of first-time winners from Myanmar (The Myanmar Times), Pakistan (The Dawn and Jang) and South Korea (Kaya Media).

The best in newspaper front page design was awarded to an impactful cover on the smoke haze contamination from open burning in Sumatra and Kalimantan by Republika (Indonesia). 

In their 15th edition, WAN-IFRA's annual Asian Media Awards gathered 462 entries from 19 countries from all over Asia and the Middle East, competing for excellence in printing quality, design, infographics, photography, editorial content, Newspaper Marketing and Community Service. The Best in Print Awards - which were this year part of the International Newspaper Colour Quality Club competition and will be presented at the WAN-IFRA India conference in Calcutta later this year - were sponsored by manroland web systems for the 15th consecutive year!

No less than 20 judges from international media companies evaluated the AMA entries in the past months in order to select the 39 awards winners who were honoured at Publish Asia's Gala Dinner tonight. Judges included notably the World Press Photo Award winners Bill Frakes and Ian Grarup, former National Geographic Art Director Juan Velasco, the Evening Standard’s managing editor, Doug Wills and The Age’s editor in chief, Andrew Holden.

Back in Manila after 9 years, Publish Asia is WAN-IFRA's premier conference in the Asia-Pacific region and the Asian Media Awards gala dinner is one of the highlights of the event. Organised with the support of local Filipino publishers the Manila Bulletin, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Philippine Star, Manila Times and Business Mirror, the dinner took place in the beautiful historic site of Fort Santiago, built by the Spanish in the 16th Century.

Publish Asia 2016, which was opened this morning by His Excellency Benigno Aquino III, President of the Philippines, gathered 300 media executives from 24 countries, representing over 80 Asian leading news media companies.

In their 14th edition, Asian Media Awards gathered a record of 595 entries countries from all over Asia and the Middle East The Best in Print Awards were sponsored by manroland web systems. Asian Media Awards 2014

The Star (Malaysia), The South China Morning Post (Hong Kong), Singapore Press Holdings (Singapore) and The New Straits Times (Malaysia) were among the top winners of the annual Asian Media Awards presented in a gala ceremony in Hong Kong by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) on the 24 April evening. In their 13th edition, WAN-IFRA's annual Asian Media Awards saw a record of 534 entries from all over Asia and the Middle East competing for excellence in printing quality, design, infographics, photography , editorial content, newspaper marketing and community service. Asian Media Awards 2013

Singapore Press Holdings (Singapore), ABP (India), and Al Nisr Publishing (UAE) were among the winners of the 12th annual Asian Media Awards presented in a gala ceremony in Bangalore (India). The ceremony was held at Publish Asia 2013 and WAN-IFRA Expo India which gathered over 600 media executives from 25 countries. The Best in Print Awards were sponsored by manroland web systems. Asian Media Awards 2012

The 11th Asian Media Awards ceremony has designated the best publications from Asia Pacific and the Middle East in seven different categories among over 650 entries received.
The Winners list, which includes publications such as Star (Malaysia), South China Morning Post, Jawa Pos, Jakarta Globe, Mid Day, Malayala Manorama, Gulf News, AP, Kompas Gramedia, Singapore Press Holdings, Asahi Shimbun and many more, can be view here

Asian Media Awards 2011

The Apple Daily in Hong Kong, The Hindustan Times in India, and the Straits Times in Singapore were among the winners of the 10th annual Asia Media Awards presented tonight (28 April) in a gala ceremony in Bangkok. The winner list can be view here.

The Best in Print Awards were sponsored by manroland, while the Best in Design Awards were sponsored by Kodak.
