The scope of the order stretches from drives and controls on the press itself to control consoles and produc-tion management systems.

New drives will be supplied for one folder and two printing towers, each with 12 printing couples. The new drives will be from the ABB ACSM1 series. These high-performance machinery drives provide speed, torque and motion control for demanding applications. They can control induction, synchronous and asynchronous servo and high torque motors with various feedback devices. The new drives will be built into the existing cabinets.

New ABB ACS380 drives will also be provided for the24 ink ductors on the two printing towers.

The obsolete Wifag WPOS control units on the two towers, the folder and also the turner bar nest, will be replaced by modern ABB APOS solutions based on the AC500 PLC, a device that has been used in countless demanding industries and is available worldwide.

Moving on the level of the control consoles, all seven existing consoles will be upgraded to the latest ver-sion, which offers either conventional or touchscreen operation and is based on ABB’s Compact Product Suite HMI.

Finally, at the production management level, the existing ABB MPS Production system will be upgraded to release 6 based on the PostgreSQL database, which makes virtualization a much lower-cost option than in the past. The production data analysis system, MPS Inform, will be updated in a similar way.

The various retrofits and upgrades will be completed by the end of the year.
