Rick van Dijk has a degree in economics and is managing director at the Netherlands Press Fund, a government funded organization aimed at financing projects from news organizations and new journalism initiatives in order to maintain a divers journalistic infrastructure which is a key element in a democratic society. His job mainly consists of (1) advising publishers, journalists and researchers on how to apply for a subsidy and help them find other resources and (2) advising the board of the Fund on applications and on media research, policy and developments.  Furthermore, he is responsible for the management of the bureau of the Press Fund and he designs regulations for granting subsidies. One such regulation is The Challenge: Reinventing Journalism, aimed at helping young journalists and students who want to start their own news organisation.
