Bülent Mumay was born in July 1977 in Siirt, Turkey. He studied Sociology  at İstanbul University, Faculty of Literature and after graduation he obtained his Master's Degree on "Internet Journalism and The Changing Role of News" from the same university. At present, he is working on his Ph.D. thesis regarding the current transformation of the Turkish media at Department of Journalism in İstanbul Universty.
Mumay, has worked as a copyreader and redactor in Hürriyet newspaper between 1997 and 2000. After leaving his job as an editor in the news portal ntvmsnbc.com which he worked from 2000 to 2002, he was called back to Hürriyet again and worked as an editor up to 2005. In 2005, he became the Foreign Puplications Manager of Hürriyet and oversaw the USA and Germany editions of the newspaper. He has been working as Vice Editor-in-Chief in the leading left/liberal newspaper Radikal for the last year. Now, he is the editor-in-chief of Hurriyet.com.tr, Turkey's biggest news portal.
Bülent Mumay, has earned a scholarship for studying English language at Kaplan Aspect in Washington D.C. and had short term practices in several US newspapers/TVs. Mumay can communicate at an advanced level in English and basic level in Arabic and German.
He is married and has no children.
