Chris Cramer is an international media executive with more than 40 years experience in global journalism. He led the world’s largest newsgathering organisation while at the BBC and developed the world’s most influential, profitable and widely distributed news channel, CNN International. He has also spent more than five years in senior executive roles at Reuters and is currently Head of Video for The Wall Street Journal.

While at the BBC, Cramer brought together the BBC's huge radio and television newsgathering services into a single and powerful operation.

At CNN, he helped the organisation respond to the transition to digital broadcasting making CNN the leading news operator in the employment of video and cell phone newsgathering and broadcasting.

At Reuters, he launched an innovative broadband service for financial professionals and oversaw an integration of Reuters TV, Pictures, and Reuters.com editorial staff.

Few major news stories have passed without Cramer playing a central role, most notably the Falklands War, both Iraq Gulf Wars, the Lockerbie bombing, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Death of the Princess of Wales, the Arab Spring and CNN's coverage of the Asian Tsunami for which he won a coveted DuPont Award. In 2007, he was honored by the North American Broadcasters Association (NABA) with a lifetime achievement award for his services to journalism.

He was the founding President of the International News Safety Institute (INSI) the global organisation devoted to the ethical treatment and safety of journalists. He is also a Fellow of Britain’s Royal Television Society.

Cramer has been committing much of his time in recent years to bringing the industry together in order to ensure the protection and training of journalists who work in hostile environments while also unraveling its after-effects.

Cramer has written and contributed to many books. His first book, Hostage, is an eyewitness account of the 1980 London Iranian Embassy siege when he was seized for two days and released before the embassy was stormed by Britain’s Special Forces.

He also continues to write for newspapers and magazines about media matters and is regularly invited to be a keynote speaker at major international media events. He specialises in New Media, transformation and is an accomplished after dinner speaker.
