Christopher K. Sopher

Youth news engagement proponent, researcher and idea guy, United States

Chris' leadership of our ideathon at the last summit produced high excitement so we asked him to return this year, giving up the most important American family holiday: Thanksgiving. He has researched, written and spoken internationally about young people's engagement with news media and civic life both before and since he worked for the Knight Foundation (2012-2014) He’s interested in and working on journalism, design, policy, open government and urbanism and likes building new things and working with awesome people. In 2011, he created an independent drama show, Above the Fold, about the staff of a newspaper.  Right now, he's creating a new community-based news operation for Miami, Florida. Chris received a bachelor's degree in public policy analysis and political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a guest juror for the World Young Reader Prize in 2011.
