Margaret joined the Guardian in 2001 to run a new programme that has since offered free hands-on journalism workshops for more than 7500 visitors a year. School children learn professional reporting by creating newspapers, podcasts and videos using new and archived news. In addition, she organizes a wide-ranging teacher conference programme, teacher open evenings and activities for university groups, adults and families.  The fully-equipped Education Centre relocated in 2008 within the Guardian offices. Previously Margaret was a teacher and manager at a state comprehensive school in South London, specializing in history, politics, careers, business studies and citizenship.
