Ricardo Pedreira obtained a degree in Journalism by Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in 1978. From 1977 to 1988, he worked as a journalist and editor for Jornal do Brasil, Jornal de Brasília, Revista Veja, Jornal da República, Revista IstoÉ and Rede Globo. He was Press Secretary for the Brazilian Presidency from 1988 to 1990.

From 1990 to 2000, he worked as Political Consultant (Santa Fé Idéias e Comunicação), Political Marketing Consultant (Propeg) and Press and Marketing Adviser (Alô Comunicação). He joined the Brazilian Association of Newspapers (ANJ) in 2005 as Communication Advisor and Editor of Jornal ANJ. He is Executive Director of the Association since the beginning of 2009.
