Investigative Journalist, Sunday Times, South Africa

Rob Rose, South Africa, is an investigative journalist specializing in business corruption for South Africa's Sunday Times.  After earning a law degree, Rose took on the financial fraud and corporate governance beats at South Africa's largest business daily newspaper, Business Day. Later, at The Financial Mail magazine, he exposed a $2 billion trans- national Ponzi scheme involving some of South Africa's top businessmen. At the Sunday Times, Rose’s investigations included probes of South African arms deals and how football's ruling body, FIFA, awarded lucrative deals to shady, politically connected companies ahead of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. He also has contributed to various books, including Player and Referee: Conflicting Interests in the 2010 Soccer World Cup and Troublemakers: The best of South Africa's investigative journalism. Among Rose’s awards are South Africa's premier investigative journalism prize, the Taco Kuiper award; Financial Journalist of the Year in South Africa; and a Nieman fellowship for journalism at Harvard University.
