Managing Director, Archant Norfolk (UK)

Stephan Phillips is the Managing Director of Archant Norfolk, the largest division of the UK’s biggest independent regional newspaper company.
In this role he is responsible for over 400 staff. Prior to this he was the Development Director of Archant Regional, with a brief to launch and develop successful national, classified websites.

He was the Ad Director at Archant Norfolk for ten years and before that the Assistant Managing Director of Aberdeen Journals Ltd for three years, when it was owned by the Thomson Corporation.

Stephan has a background in fmcg starting out as a graduate trainee with J Sainsbury plc. He also did a four-year stint with CWS Ltd.

He holds a first degree in marketing from Nottingham Trent University and was awarded a Master of Science degree from the University of Glamorgan for his academic research into consumer disloyalty behaviour. He is also an Alumni of INSEAD in France and IMD in Lausanne.

He has won many industry awards, and one of the web sites he was responsible for has won the UKPG best website award four times in five years.

In 2004 he was recognised by the Financial Times in their Creative Top 50 list, the first person in regional press in the UK to be recognised in this way.
In 2009 he became a director of Norwich City Football Club plc.

Stephan is a frequent industry speaker, and moderated the WAN-IFRA (World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers) conference – Beyond 2010 - in Istanbul in October.
