The World Printers Forum (WPF) is an organisation of newspaper printers and suppliers within WAN-IFRA. Its objective is to encourage innovation and productivity as well as product development that can be instrumental for publishers to exploit future oriented news media products. It promotes the power of print and the sustainability of print production.

2018-05-03 12:52Montréal, May 3, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ – Resolute Forest Products Inc. (NYSE: RFP) (TSX: RFP) today reported net income for the quarter ended March 31, 2018, of $10 million, or $0.11 per share, compared to a net loss of $47 million, or $0.52 per share, in the same period in 2017. Sales were $874 million in the quarter, an increase of $2 million from the first quarter of 2017. Excluding special items, the company reported net income of $17 million, or $0.18 per share, compared to a net loss, excluding special items, of $30 million, or $0.33 per share, in the first quarter of 2017. 2018-04-25 14:03Würzburg, 25.04.2018 – Friedrich Koenig, inventor of the steam-powered cylinder press and pioneer of modern newspaper printing, founded Schnellpressenfabrik Koenig & Bauer together with Andreas Bauer in 1817. 200 years later Koenig’s great-great-great grandson Claus Bolza-Schünemann manages the company in the sixth generation. Claus Bolza-Schünemann was honoured with the Friedrich-Koenig medal for his exceptional achievements in press manufacturing. “I am deeply honoured to receive this award,” said Bolza-Schünemann at the award ceremony. “This award rounds off our 200-year company anniversary perfectly.” Following in the footsteps of his grandfather and his father, Claus Bolza-Schünemann is the third family member to receive the medal awarded by the German Mechanical Engineering Association (VDMA). 2018-04-16 12:49Würzburg, 13.04.2018 – WE-Druck in Oldenburg, Germany, has opted for a highly automated newspaper press from Koenig & Bauer for the first time with the investment in a Commander CL. The printshop can now pump out up to 110,000 four-colour newspapers per hour in the customers’ preferred format. “We upgraded our entire postpress equipment three years ago and the investment in a new newspaper press line was the next logical step. We were bowled over not just by the technology, but also by the team from Koenig & Bauer. The Commander CL will be the new heart of our printing house,” says Harold Grönke, managing director of Nordwest-Zeitung Verlagsgesellschaft. Read more ...

The International Color Quality Club is the only worldwide printing quality competition for newspapers and magazines. Its goal is to improve the quality of reproduction and printing in production, while also increasing competitiveness as well as training and motivating all personnel.

The Materials Management Database project was launched as a spinoff of the Newsprint and Newsink Guide. Today it is used by printers, pressroom foremen and technical management as an information source for facts and advice for dealing with the materials used in producing newspapers. Among other informaton you find the specification of the WAN-IFRA Bar Code for paper reels in this online database. Most of the entries in the database originate from the members of the Material Management Committee; some come from outside sources (as marked), after review and approval by the committee. This database is continually being updated and expanded. New entries will be marked with a label in red type.
