The World Printers Forum (WPF) is an organisation of newspaper printers and suppliers within WAN-IFRA. Its objective is to encourage innovation and productivity as well as product development that can be instrumental for publishers to exploit future oriented news media products. It promotes the power of print and the sustainability of print production.

2019-03-06 11:5604.03.2019 – No more coloured dots in the recycled paper: Just because the curing radiation is being generated by energy-saving LED, UV printing inks are less environmentally friendly than the marketing suggests. They leave coloured dots in the newly made paper and thus can severely damage the recycling process – because they can hardly be deinked. This is about to change: At the INGEDE Symposium in Munich, Thomas Glaser (Siegwerk) and Peter Hengesbach (Stora Enso) presented exten-sive investigations into a new printing ink. This is equally suita-ble for LED- and low energy UV printing (H-UV, LE-UV, e. a.) as well as for conventional UV printing – and is excellently deinkable. Read more ...

With a combined turnover of EUR 293 million and order intake of EUR 327 million, the company has solidified its leading market position in web offset. The latest major orders at the turn of the year to the value of EUR 50 million, raised the order backlog to EUR 200 million in the project business. From the former "Würzburger General-Anzeiger" as a pure newspaper publishing house, today's Media Group Main-Post emerged. 2019-02-28 11:08(UPM, Helsinki, 28 February 2019 at 10:05 EET) – UPM paid a total of EUR 62 million as short-term incentives to employees in 2018. The incentives were paid for the good 2017 results. 2019-02-25 14:36Würzburg, 22.02.2019 – High accolades for gifted engineering students: On 22nd February 2019, the Dr. Hans and Benno Bolza Foundation honoured this year’s recipients of its advancement award for outstanding contributions to the engineering sciences. The award, which is endowed with a total of €8,500, was shared by three graduates from the University of Wuppertal and the Technical University of Munich. 2019-02-18 13:31Sassenberg (Germany), February 15, 2019 – Based on provisional figures, technotrans SE can look back on a successful 2018 financial year. Both reporting segments “Technology” and “Services” contributed to the growth in consolidated revenue. The growth markets performed especially well, with high double-digit growth rates. Despite a weaker development in the fourth quarter and the effects of higher expenditure as previously reported, the provisional operating result (EBIT) is just 3.6 percent short of the forecast figure. Based on the anticipated economic environment, the Board of Management expects consolidated revenue for the 2019 financial year to be within the range of EUR 224 to 232 million, with EBIT reaching EUR 17.5 to 19 million. The trend toward consolidation of newspaper printing centres is slowly coming to a halt, says consultant Sabine Sirach. After all, for printed daily newspapers, there are physical limitations to the distribution distances that can be covered while still being up-to-date and relevant.

The International Color Quality Club is the only worldwide printing quality competition for newspapers and magazines. Its goal is to improve the quality of reproduction and printing in production, while also increasing competitiveness as well as training and motivating all personnel.

The Materials Management Database project was launched as a spinoff of the Newsprint and Newsink Guide. Today it is used by printers, pressroom foremen and technical management as an information source for facts and advice for dealing with the materials used in producing newspapers. Among other informaton you find the specification of the WAN-IFRA Bar Code for paper reels in this online database. Most of the entries in the database originate from the members of the Material Management Committee; some come from outside sources (as marked), after review and approval by the committee. This database is continually being updated and expanded. New entries will be marked with a label in red type.
