World Newspaper Congress Gathers Top News Media Strategies
2014-02-04
The annual World Newspaper Congress has always offered value for news executives seeking the latest on trends and strategies for news media, especially in a transformative age. But this year’s event in Torino, Italy, will offer even more for time-pressed publishers, editors and everyone working at a senior level in news publishing.
Torino 2014, the global summit meetings of the world’s press to be held from 9 to 11 June, will offer five separate events for one ticket in one venue:
- The 66th World Newspaper Congress, which will focus on emerging business models and revenue streams.
- The 21st World Editors Forum, which will examine innovations in journalism and newsroom organisation.
- The 24th World Advertising Forum, which will offer successful strategies for increasing advertising revenues from digital, mobile and print.
- The Energy Lounge, a new venue for discovering and examining disruptive technologies.
- The social events, which offer a long-proven networking platform for the publishing industry.

The events, organised by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), offer “an essential moment for everyone invested in newspapers to pause and quickly come to grips with what’s working and what’s not.” That’s how John Stackhouse, Editor-in-chief at The Globe and Mail in Canada, described the events.
“There is no better opportunity to bring together global experiences and thinking,” he said.
This year’s speakers will include: John Elkann, Chairman, Fiat and Editrice La Stampa; Carlo de Benedetti, Chairman, Gruppo Editoriale L'Espresso; John Paton, CEO, Digital First Media; Pietro Scott Jovane, CEO, RCS Media Group; David Callaway, Editor-in-chief, USA Today; Jason Seiken, Editor-in-chief and Chief Content Officer, The Telegraph; Amy Webb, Founder and CEO, Webbmedia Group; Gary Pruitt, President & CEO, The Associated Press; Andrew Betts, Director, FT Labs; Raju Narisetti, Senior Vice President and Head of Strategy, News Corp.; Yoichi Nishimura, Director of Digital Business and International Affairs, Asahi Shimbun; Sarah Marshall, the Wall Street Journal’s social media editor for Europe, the Middle East and Africa; and many others.
