Summary

Bar codes are used on the labels of newsprint reels to enable the identification of individual reels through identification numbers. The IFRA 16 digit Interleaved 2/.5 bar code contains in addition some basic information about the reel, i.e. reel weight and paper grammage and quality. To fully benefit from the bar code, more and more printing plants are investing in equipment and software capable of reading and efficiently handling the information in the code.
