Summary
It is no longer possible to ignore the reports: 90 % of all process inks used in the U.S.A. for newspaper printing are wholly or partly soybean oil based, and the equivalent share of black inks is also increasing constantly, despite the resulting 2530% higher prices for the press-ready ink compared to mineral oil based inks. Already three years ago, the daily newspaper Los Angeles Times that belongs to the Times Mirror Group in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A., one of the largest consumers of newsprint (450,000 t.p.a.) and newsinks (more than 100 t per week!), changed its total ink consumption - both process and black inks - to soybean oil based inks.
