Summary

Newspaper mailroom equipment has developed tre-mendously in recent years, in its functionality as well as in its capacity and space requirements. Its investment value may come close to that of the adjacent rotary press if a shorter life span is taken into account. For many years Ifra has assisted its members with their mailroom planning by offering its services for the defi-nition of specific mailroom requirements, evaluation of different quotations and acceptance testing of new mail-room installations. This Special Report concentrates on the acceptance testing of mailroom equipment and includes a checklist of important mailroom functions and compo-nents that have to be specified in the purchasing contract as well as other important data for a sales contract. The first report was published in December 1995 and it was the opinion of the Ifra Newspaper Production Committee that because of the technical developments of the last years the report should be updated. It has to be pointed out that this Special Report pro-vides guidelines only, and figures presented in the report are only shown as examples. The final test procedure, quality and productivity parameters with their respec-tive values and tolerances have to be agreed in each case between the contract partners.
