05.04.11 - Italy’s newspapers are becoming brighter and the formats more convenient. “In Italy, black and white titles or monochrome sections are no longer enough to pursuade readers to buy”, notes Massimo Luppi, Sales Director at Ferag Italia. Reader demands are increasing. The publisher of Gruppo Editoriale L'Espresso has therefore extended the Cerutti press at the Sassari printing centre by a further folder delivery. The machine prints 70,000 daily copies of La Nuova Sardegna, which is the leading local newspaper in central and northern Sardinia.
Each day, a further 17,000 copies of La Repubblica are fed via Ferag’s UTR conveyors to the bundling sector, along with the weekly freesheet Il Baratto. Before they reach the loading docks, the programmed bundles, which have been produced on MultiStack, are equipped with online-printed topsheets.
The new installations are replacing components that came from other printing centres operated by the media group. The point of the operation is to manage production quickly and at the same time keep quality at a high level, says Production Manager Nicola Cossu in order to explain the investment in postpress processing. That is also the reason why the company, which was founded in 1891, is once again opting for Ferag technology. The new mailroom bears out the confidence placed in Ferag and is the best way of meeting the set objectives. “The installation meets our expectations completely”, says Nicola Cossu as confirmation of his choice.
