15.08.11 - The Moscow News, an English-language newspaper published by RIA Novosti, is extending its distribution area outside Russia. As of July 2011, The Moscow News became available in the arrivals and departures areas for Russian flights at Heathrow Airport, in addition to airports in Brussels and Frankfurt am Main.
“In making The Moscow News available on international flights, we are aiming to offer our readers information on Russia and Moscow that we anticipate they will find valuable, and that they will turn to regular visitors to our website, www.themoscownews.com,” said Timur Rudnikov, General Director of the Moscow News publishing house.
Editions of The Moscow News now available in international airports are printed locally and published on Tuesdays and Fridays, matching the Russian print run. Rudnikov is confident that the reader will find it easy to discern whether a particular edition is printed in Moscow or, for example, in London just by looking at the front page. “The front page of an edition printed outside Russia will always carry an image of the city where it was printed,” he explained. The content is prepared and edited by the Moscow team, keeping this expanded geographical reach in mind.
The Moscow News currently has a print run of 83,000, and is distributed via various institutions in the Russian capital, from foreign companies or branch offices, to embassies, business centres, restaurants, hotels, museums, universities, and airports as well as Russian airlines onboard. It is also available at forums and conferences in Russia and abroad.
According to the latest audience surveys, its readers are mainly English-speaking expats who have been living and working in Russia for over five years, in senior management positions for Russian or foreign companies, as well as English-speaking Russians who are interested in foreign journalists’ comments on developments in the capital and in Russia.
The Moscow News (www.themoscownews.com)
The Moscow News was the first English-language newspaper to appear in Russia that has been published since 1930. In the eight decades of its existence it has seen, like Russia, many changes, and also like Russia, has changed itself over that time. In addition to the print version, The Moscow News also exists online at www.themoscownews.com. Both versions are produced by the Russian News & Information Agency RIA Novosti. British journalist Tim Wall is in charge of The Moscow News editor-in-chief. In print and online, The Moscow News publishes exclusive coverage of politics, the economy, culture, sports and other topics, and prides itself on being a reliable and impartial source of information about current events.
