In a company announcement dated August 31, UPM has revealed plans to reduce its production capacities in Europe by 1.3 million tonnes in order to match the needs of its global customer base.

This means a cut of 1.2 million tonnes magazine paper capacity in Finland, Germany and France as well as 110,000 tonnes newsprint capacity in Germany. The annual synergy benefits of the recent Myllykoski acquisition are estimated to account for approximately EUR 200 million when the planned actions are in place. The plan also includes restructuring of the overlapping paper sales and supply chain networks and global functions.
