While the threat of violent assault, kidnapping and even murder are a daily reality for many journalists worldwide, other more subtle attacks against press freedom exist which attract far fewer headlines. Some of the most frequent problems faced by the editors and publishers we work with include censorship, financial pressures, advertising boycotts, government meddling and judicial harassment. For this year’s Press Freedom Round Table, a panel of outstanding experts from across the global media and freedom of expression community will discuss how the business of newspapers is affected when freedom of expression is threatened.
