 Save our students – 20 South African newspapers combined forces to create study materials for students during long teachers’ strike

 Save a river – Gazeta Wyborcza (Poland) led fight that the young joined to prevent the Rospuda river from being destroyed by a new highway.

 Teach children about press freedom. The French weekly for children, Journal des Enfants, did a special edition that asked children of jailed journalists to help other children understand the importance and price of press freedom.

 Show support for oppressed - This same Polish paper printed Tibet flag, readers sent in photos holding it to protest Chinese actions there

 Encourage power saving - Malayala Manorama (India) partnered with the regional power company for a contest in which children encouraged less power use at home

 Create recyclable bag and environment clubs– Express & Echo (UK) distributed shopping bags and had a contest for students to design them

 Get excited about democracy - To mark the 20th anniversary of the end of communism in Poland, the Metro free newspaper devised an exciting and empowering project to get young people interested in a democratic process redesigned for the digital age.

 Use excess newsprint – With a grocery store, Republikein (Namibia) made notebooks of blank pages for writing and drawing for rural
