The Public Service category honors a civic engagement project in areas such as the environment, literacy, youth civic involvement, etc.

Save our students – 20 South African newspapers combined forces to create study materials for students during long teachers’ strike

Save a river – Gazeta Wyborcza (Poland) led fight that the young joined to prevent the Rospuda river from being destroyed by a new highway.

Teach children about press freedom. The French weekly for children, Journal des Enfants, did a special edition that asked children of jailed journalists to help other children understand the importance and price of press freedom.

Get excited about democracy - To mark the 20th anniversary of the end of communism in Poland, the Metro free newspaper devised an exciting and empowering project to get young people interested in a democratic process redesigned for the digital age.
