To mark the 100th birthday of Axel Springer, a tabloid version of the Hamburg edition of the Bild-Zeitung will be published for the duration of 100 days in parallel to the classical format.

From 7 May to 14 August 2012, the edition of the Bild-Zeitung published for the Hamburg region will be obtainable from newspaper retail outlets in the special "city format" for the price of  70 cents. This special version will contain all the editorial content and advertising of the regular newspaper. The layout and structure have been adapted to the smaller format, which will result in part to a different positioning and categorisation of the content. It is hoped that the smaller format will appeal especially to mobile and young readers.
