newspaper format

Helsingin Sanomat, the largest newspaper in Finnland, will shift its format to tabloid as part of an overall renewal project, the publisher, Sanoma News, informed. The first tabloid issue will be published on 8 January 2013.

This renewal is a part of HS multi-channel development. "This is one of the most significant changes in the paper's history and the paper will also have a new  design. The new size makes for a clearer structure in the entire paper and individual spreads, while maintaining the editorial strengths of Helsingin Sanomat: reliability, independence, diversity and journalistic excellence," says Mikael Pentikäinen, editor in chief of Helsingin Sanomat.

The format conversion  was announced in February. During the spring, pilot magazines were read and commented on by more than 1,500 readers at HS events. "During the preparation, we have received lots of good feedback from readers and advertisers. Based on that, I rest assured that the new HS will bring joy to a multitude of people," says M. Pentikäinen.
