At its constitutive session held on 2 November 2012, the 20-member drupa committee decided to keep the 4-year cycle for the event. The committee also decided to shorten drupa's duration to 11 days.

"A key factor in this decision was the international trade fair calendar that is built around the four-yearly cycle of drupa", a recent drupa press release states.

The second major item on the agenda of the constitutive session was the appointment of Claus Bolza-Schünemann, CEO of Koenig & Bauer AG, as Chairman of drupa 2016.
