Last year, Abidjan Live News trained young, aspiring journalists and ordinary citizens throughout Côte D’Ivoire on how to create news videos for the web using mobile phones. They were tasked with telling digital stories related to their communities and using their mobile phone as a tool for exposing local stories.

“THERE IS MORE THAN ONE VOICE”

The project was completely fundedby Abidjan Live News, as they believe in providing impoverished and rural communities with the opportunity to have their stories be told. Lack of revenue and funding, and high service costs have halted the project after five months of activity.

Simultaneously, Abidjan Live News was offering mobile news alerts to customers, including the news alerts being fed in from their team of citizen journalists, but service costs have made continuing the service difficult.

Beyond the grant being provided by WAN-IFRA, Abidjan Live News requires consultation in revenue generation, marketing and advertising strategy for mobile products.
