Closure of the Basler Zeitung printing plant

Article ID:

16035

It has been announced that the Basler Zeitung Medien (BZM) printing plant in Basle will close at the end of March. The reason given for this decision is low level of utilisation of its printing capacity.

After the outsourcing of print production to a separate public limited company (Die Zeitungsdrucker Schweiz) in April 2011, it has now been decided to close down the operation, with a loss of 74 jobs.

Reduced turnover and years of losses due to surplus newspaper printing capacities in Switzerland, leading to a drop in prices, are reported to tbe the reason for this development.

The Basler Zeitung (BaZ) will be printed in future by Tamedia in Zurich.
