The paper manufacturer UPM-Kymmene announced on 17 January its plans to permanently reduce production capacity for graphic paper in Finland, Germany and France by 580,000 tonnes per year.

UPM plant in Ettringen, Germany, will also reduce its production

The mills in Ettringen, Germany, and Rauma, Finland, will close down one paper machine each (representing 175,000 tonnes of uncoated magazine papers and 245,000 tonnes of SC paper respectively) while the paper mill in France will be sold or closed completely. "The business environment also makes evident the need for streamlining of the Paper Business Group and UPM’s global functions to remain cost competitive in the new business scale," the company says in its official announcement. The plans imply a personnel reduction of approximately 860 persons.
