The lost art of the story editor
A lost art needs to be found again. For two decades I have argued that production journalism – story editing - was a redundant concept. When I last ran a newspaper company I would argue with the editor that either journalists write to fit, or they’re not fit to write. Why, if I, a non-journalist, can write to 800 words, can’t a professionally trained writer not write to his/her brief?
