As announced by Rheinische Post Mediengruppe, the media group is selling all its activities in the Czech Republic. A contract on the sale was signed with the Agrofert, the fourth largest Czech enterprise, on 26 of June, 2013.

According to a press release, Rheinische Post Mediengruppe sold 100 percent of the shares in Mafra as well as all Czech subsidiaries.

The Mafra group is one of the leading media groups in the Czech Republic and publisher of the daily newspapers Mladá Fronta DNES and Lidové Noviny

In addition, Mafra operates the news portal with the widest coverage of the country, iDnes.cz, as well as numerous further Internet activities, and the Očko TV station. Including the printing houses in Prague and Olmütz, the company has more than 1,100 employees.

As Karl Hans Arnold, Chairman of the Board of Management of Rheinische Post Mediengruppe, says, the group has "chosen to effect this sale based on higher-level strategic considerations".  It should allow the group to make more consistent use of its growth opportunities, in particular in the digital business.

The sale is subject to approval by the cartel authorities. Information about the selling price has not been disclosed.
