VASP is a press distribution company in Portugal. In 2007 VASP created the business unit DPS – Digital Printing Services specialising in digital printing of newspapers and business documents. Sandro Silva is Managing Director of DPS.

What international newspaper titles are digitally printed by DPS and distributed by VASP today?

Sandro Silva: For retail sale we produce L’Équipe, the biggest sports newspaper in Europe. Our digital productions for subscribers depend on the requested orders; on a daily basis we print the Washington Post. Of course, there are more titles available from Pressterra but we only print the titles for which we have orders.

What is the total circulation that is digitally printed per day?

Our daily productions vary from 300 in December/January to about 7000 or 8000 in summer because during July and August we print LÉquipe in offset. The maximum number of copies we print digitally per day is around 1500.

What digital press is used for printing (one machine or more)?

We have a Xerox DP1050 continuous feed press with two engines configured as an inline solution with the finishing equipment. We use standard newsprint with a grammage of  48.8 gsm. We print more local newspapers, but on other machines with more quality and in colour; these are sheet machines like Ricoh Pro C900, Canon 6010 and others.
