The Daily Star
The Argumentative Daily
"The newspaper's future lies in authenticity and credibility. Although people receive news from many sources, they will ultimately believe the brand they trust. There is no future for the news media unless they can maintain their ethical journalism" - Mahfuz Anam
The launch of The Daily Star in January 1991 immediately followed the restoration of democracy in Bangladesh after almost 10 years of an autocratic regime run by the military. Relying on traditional journalism ethics powered by modern publishing techniques, the new daily rapidly reached a dominant position, which it still holds today. Mahfiz Anam, the editor and publisher, believes that thriving on the new digital platforms will depend on the news media's ability to continue providing readers with quality independent journalism.
