Kushner – who has added more than 200 people to its news staff in the past year – plans to use existing Orange County Register staff to produce the new Los Angeles Register. Journalists working in Los Angeles will be covering local news.
“We will have effectively three editions of the Register serving 15 million people in Orange County, Riverside County, San Bernardino County and Los Angeles County,” Kushner said.
In addition, he announced intentions to launch a not yet specified number of community weeklies for Los Angeles.
Los Angeles is a highly competitive market as the region currently is served by the Los Angeles Times and Los Angeles Daily News (MediaNews Group) among others.
